Most will never think of it until they’ve had the unit for fairly a while. It’s small and seems insignificant until you need it. If you spend the additional money on a programmable unit and it doesn’t have a backup, then that money is wasted. I live in a state that’s notorious for power surges and lightning strikes. It’s not strange for the power to go out a couple times a night for only a moment or two. But, it only takes a second. You program your coffee maker for the next morning and you lose power through the night, while your sleeping. Most won’t notice a power loss during the night because your clock, most likely, has a battery backup. And, your telegram box will reset and resync itself but your coffee maker has lost its settings. Unless you have a battery backup. Then, you get up in the morning and begin your day thinking that the coffee maker is doing its job, after all it’s programmable. Right? As you’re getting ready to leave the home you notice there’s no coffee. By now it’s too late to begin the brew cycle. So, you’re left to swing by your local coffee shop and spend anywhere from and up for a cup of joe.

That’s why I state that a battery backup is a very important feature that shouldn’t be overlooked when shopping for and pricing high-luxury coffee makers. Most boxes will not list it as a prominent feature for a specific model. It’s up to you to think ahead and be informed.

I’ve long been a fan of the KitchenAid mixer. My 5 quart KitchenAid has been one of my favorite kitchen tools for years because it does precisely what I need it to do, when I need it. When the professional 600 series was introduced, I had to take a closer look!

The 600 is a lift-bowl type mixer, meaning that there is a lever on the right hand side of the mixer that lifts up, raising the bowl to the attachment. The head of the mixer is fixed, it does not tilt up like some other models do.

The motor is very strong, 575 watts, which is much larger than my current 325 watts. The stainless steel bowl is larger also, 6 quarts instead of my current 5 quart bowl.

Reviews have been mixed, with several people stating it is not doable to mix 14 cups of flour in the bowl as the company professes.

Others have mentioned that when the motor gets hot, it stops. According to the owners manual this is a normal endorsement mechanism, and when the motor cools down it will work fine again. (I’ve never had this happen with my 5 quart KitchenAid.)

The KitchenAid Mixer 600 comes in a massive variety of colors including deep blue steel, copper pearl, dark pewter, empire red, licorice (black), nickel pearl, onyx black (I’m not certain what the difference is between licorice and onyx black, you’ll want to check apiece model in person), pearl metallic, white and caviar (this one also looks black to me).

If you place these in the dishwasher even once, they will oxidize and blacken!

The 600 mixer has 10 speeds like my 5 quart mixer, and many people have complimented the “Soft Start” feature, which prevents splatters when starting your machine.
